The 2012 White House holiday card stars Bo!

Courtesy Larassa Kabel

The 2012 White House holiday card, starring Bo, was designed by Iowa artist Larassa Kabel.

An artist from Iowa designed the official 2012 greeting, which features the Obamas' Portuguese water dog traipsing through the snowy lawn of the White House.

Larassa Kabel, the artist whose image was chosen, submitted her picture in September after the White House invited artists to offer their work for consideration.

"My mom was so happy," Kabel told the Des Moines Register. "She's always told me, 'Oh, Larassa, you should do pet portraits.'"

Last year, Republicans and Fox "News" criticized the Obamas for not have a Christmas tree on their holiday card. This year, they criticized the White House for having too many Christmas trees. I wonder what they will say now about this card.

I knew the White House would go to the dogs under the Obama Administration.

Where is the yellow snow. It doesn't show up on a B&W photo.

If it's just a "Holiday" card, why not just order thousands, and send them on EVERY HOLIDAY we observe? Just really tired of liberals taking away EVERY tradition we hold dear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm ready for all these libs to create their own universe, but not a Parallel one! As far away as possible! But then they wouldn't have anyone to denigrate, and would no doubt start on each other! After all, it IS their mission!

Since I don't have cable, I haven't watched Fox in a long time although I do go to their website, so I tried a Google search on Fox complaining about Obama's Christmas cards. I found something about Sarah Palin making idiotic claims but nothing about Fox. Just because Mrs. Palin is an occasional political commentater on Fox News does not mean Fox is responsible for every idiotic comment she makes. One could just as easily blame TLC, she had a show on that network.

How about the real news, NBC... instead of hiding the fact that OBOZO is the biggest joke since Jimmy Carter!!!

HeyThumper, guess you're still sore you lost last month. Too bad so sad. Don't hang with NBC, you're definitely Fox. And for those who are so sorry we don't have a Christmas tree on the card, well then we'd offend the other religions and we try to follow the separation of church and state part of the constitution. Oh my, we just can't please all of you so we'll please ourselves.

@Cameron - welcome to the world of politics. When Bush was president, Democrats accused him of propaganda with a "photo op" in Iraq when he surprised the troops with a Thanksgiving feast. Prior to that, he was accused by the left of not caring about the soldiers (which was pathetically laughable). So no matter what HE did, the left found a way to criticize him.

And by the way....no president in US history has ever had near 54 Christmas trees in the White House (called "holiday" trees by the White House for the record). The Obama's are living it up well in the economy they now own 100%. If a Republican president were gorging it up like they do while unemployed has hovered around 8% for the last four years, the main stream media would be lambasting them. Of course, when Bush was president and unemployment was 5.9% (and gas was $2/gallon), the same media and their left wing pundits were telling us we were all headed for the soup kitchens for survival.

Just because Mrs. Palin is an occasional political commentator on Fox News does not mean Fox is responsible for every idiotic comment she makes.

Thank you, Matthew. A rare voice of reason in a sea of emotion-fed liberalism. I would say the same about that idiot Chris "thrilling feeling up the leg over Obama" Matthews on MSNBC, but he's a full time paid blowhard.

It's a holiday card when it is sent to people of various faiths. If I were Jewish or another faith, I would not want to receive nothing but Christmas cards. Have a little consideration for the recipient and not just the sender.

lilmorts the continued comments about Obama being a Muslim just shows you inability to understand the fact he is a Christian. Happy Holiday is another way of saying Happy Holy Day. Christmas is a Holy Day in the Chriatian faith, so the greeting is appropiate.

It is called a "hoilday card" becasuse this is the "Hoilday Season" and while you might not be aware of it (livinf under a rock can do that to you!) -- not every single Amercan is a Christian (every hear of Jewish people?) -- It is a nice card -- Anyone one who attacks it (especally FOX (made-up) News is just showing what limited intellogence and ignorance -- compunded with too much time and access to the airwaves. Actually, Christmas, is a Christian celebration, Christ is actually in the name. I understand there are several celebrations this time of year, but there is only one religion for Christmas.

I guess the question is, if you celebrate Christmas, why not say Merry Christmas on your cards? I'm a Christian but I wouldn't be offended if someone sent me a card that said Happy Hanukkah. Whatever you celebrate and believe, be proud.

This article is about the Obama Holiday card.

There was no tie in to Christmas in the article at all. Let alone the word appearing at all in it. You are adding in your personal religious beliefs by bringing up Christmas.

No, I'm saying, whatever your religion, be proud. Our society is too busy tip-towing around each other for rear of offending someone. If people truly get offended by your religion that's their problem. Learn to accept each other. Be proud of who you are, send a Hanukkah or Kwanzaa card to your Christian friends. What's the big deal. You'll never make everyone happy so don't kill yourself trying.

Christmas is just a repurposed Yuletide (winter solstice), and St. John Baptist day is just a repurposed summer solstice celebration. Christ was actually born some time after harvest.

        #5.7 - Fri Dec 7, 2012 11:09 AM EST

Okay, then instead of sending a Christmas card, send a Yuletide or a harvest card out. Whatever. I'm just saying it shouldn't matter what your beliefs are, you shouldn't have to worry about offending people of other faiths. A card is nothing more than wishing others well.

Some of you folks really need to have your computers taken away. Freedom of Speech does not give you the right to be butts. I support Freedom of Speech...but I also support holding people accountable for what they say. Sometimes, you need to know when not to say something. Americans have fallen to such a low we may never come back...but then...I've watched the way many of you have raised your...uhm....children...and there's no hope anyway. The children are our future? Yeah. Shallow, self centered, money driven. Nice...very nice. To those who choose to be offended at "Happy Holidays" you're simply showing your ignorance. There are many holidays in December...not just Christmas. If someone chooses to be inclusive and say Happy Holidays as opposed to Merry Christmas...it's their right to do so. Besides, shouldn't you be out doing what American Christians do best? You know, hating everyone who's different, telling everyone else how to live and in general...trying to make everyone else as miserable as you are?

Well said, sir. It is not only Christmas that is being celebrated. It terrifies me to know that there is so much ignorance and HATE in this country, and all over the world. I choose to live and let live. I do what makes me happy, as long as I'm not hurting anyone else in the process. I choose to say "Happy Holiday" because I am a religious minority and don't feel the need to explain myself every time I say "Have a Blessed Yule!"

Excellent response Weall. I've followed that line of thinking for years. I even wear a badge that says"It's ok to say Merry Christmas!" In fact....another good reason for saying Merry Christmas is the fact many are not aloud to say it ...even in this country. Our Kroger store does not have the word "Christmas" in the store and they will only respond to your Merry Christmas greeting with...thanks, or happy holidays to you....or anything but saying the word Christmas. That's what their employees have been told....even though they have a shopping aisle marked "Hannakah" . So...Merry Christmas to all!

Tom don't burn your precious, limited mental energy resources worrying about such trivial matters. It's very evident that you're the only person on the blog who is concerned about such. You better worry how you're going to keep Patsy around, as I'm near certain she's fed up with your stingy, selfish personna.

Ok, enough. The president has the right to put whatever photo he chooses for the WHITE house CHRISTMAS card. He won the election and the fact that whatever happens (good or bad) it will be his to own and not Bushes, Republicans, House of Reps, etc. The finger pointing ends at his desk, period. So, let the man be. He is trying to make plans for his 21 day vacation to Hawaii. I sure hope the budget squabble is decided before he leaves. I would hate to see him return, to find his furniture and personal possession repo'd. Oh, and by the way, I understand if you are retired (like me) and are blathering on this site, right now. But, hey, this is Friday and you others should be at work. If you are not working, get off your dumb a$$ and get a job, ya bums.

Gorgeous choice for a card. I agree, however, that is a CHRISTMAS card, not a holiday card. Unless Obama is celebrating the other holidays in appropriate ways, why not just admit that Christmas is probably what his family is celebrating. I send friends of all faiths my family Christmas card, just so they can have an update, a new picture of my kids, and know we are thinking of them. Someone on here wrote that you should consider the recipient - nonsense! My Hanukka card (sorry if not spelled right) came yesterday and I pinned it up with my Christmas cards - not offended, felt loved that I got a card.

Does it really matter whether it is "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"? People need to be a bit more forgiving. The important thing is to celebrate the holidays the way that your religion or lack thereof tells you to. I, for one, am not really offended when someone wishes me well this time of year in a manner that is not in keeping with my family tradition. They have their way and I have mine. Be tolerant of each others differences. And I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday's

How much did this crap cost the American tax payer.

Oh, Mr. President, have a nice time in Hawaii while millions suffer to rebuild their lives and struggle to pay their bills. Bad form Mr. Obama.

You are a fool! He was raised in Hawaii and he shouldn't go home for the holidays?

Stanley Dunham is the grandfather of Barack Obama. He was born in 1918 and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, enlisting just after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Stanley and his wife Madelyn raised Obama in Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition to Obama, Stanley is related to six US presidents: James Madison, Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush. He died in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1992, and is buried at the Punchbowl National Cemetery.

                  catthepat,

Well, it's none of your business but I am a .5%er and have not had a vacation since 2008. Work everyday, pay my taxes, and watch FOX news. So, I am the evil one, the evil tax payer taking from the poor and giving to the rich.

                  Your dilusional.

                  ShakingMyHead61,

Listen up Obama defender. He is going for 21 days during one of the most critical times in the history of this country. Taking both Air Force One type planes, costing US tax payers tens of millions of dollars. This is slap in the face of hardworking and struggling Americans.

You keep shaking that head til your dizzy with Obamalove.

Justice, a Christmas gift just for you!

Bush set to beat Reagan’s vacation record.

Yesterday, President Bush took off for his vacation home in Crawford, TX, where he has already “spent all or part of 418 days of his presidency.” With 17 months left in office, Bush is on course to beat “the presidential vacation-time record holder,” the late Ronald Reagan, “who tallied 436 days in his two terms.” Bush’s vacation will mark the 65th time he has visited Crawford as President.

Oh, say it isn't so! You are a pitiful human being.

They bare NOT Muslims and repeating so often will never make it true. Get a hold of yourself and stop letting blind hate rule your life. It's sad that you have allowed your hate to become who you are.
