Festive felines: 11 cats in Christmas trees

Submitted by Michelle Wiggins

I'm watching...always watching...

With Christmas only two weeks away, a lot of people are getting out their decorations and decking their halls for the upcoming holiday. Of course, that also means that your pets will have some new items to explore and new trouble to get into  around the house.

One of the biggest attractions will be the tree, and from the photos you sent us it's fairly clear that cats in particular enjoy exploring these additions to the home décor no matter what their size!

From 2 cats squeezing into a 4 foot tree to a feline with a taste for pine, enjoy these photos of your cats in Christmas trees!

Our cat thought we brought in a evil green monster. I drug in a 5' tall real tree and the cat ran. She had to be fed in the bed room and when she crossed the hall to the litter box she kept a close eye on the monster. I hooked up a string to it and shook it a couple of times when she walk by and she ran. She made friends with it and it was her best friend after that.

My cat never bothered a Christmas tree. She goes outside and climbs trees but showed no interest other than wanting to drink the water for the tree.

I loved the pictures fun article.

We are a childfree couple who is owned by 3 cats, and have been putting up our Christmas tree ever year for them. They love the Christmas tree and every year we expect poop with tinsel pieces, ornaments on the ground, or broken/chewed ornaments. Our tree is usually ornament-free on the bottom 3 rows but every morning when we wake up, it never fails to find an ornament on the ground. I was laid off this year and wasn't planning to put up the Christmas tree since it's kind of a bummer Christmas not having a job, but my hubby decided today that we must put up the tree for the enjoyment of the kitties. They really do love the tree, and just seeing them play under the tree makes it worthwhile.

as soon as the tree goes up there they are all our fur babies curled up under it and there they stay till it comes down.

All of my furbabies love the tree. Fights ensue over who gets to drink the water first. They haven't climbed it in years (I think they're getting too old); but ornaments still end up on the ground and playtime usually involves the tree in some way. I've learned for safety that there is no tinsle for kitty to swallow and no flocking for the same reason. Water is straight with no preservative and usually only have to make the emergency room visit for swallowed/stuck in mouth pine needles once per kitten. They usually learn it after the first trip. Like the poster above, I get used to poop with bits of tree in it and am amazed at a cat's diegestive system. Just watching them enjoy it makes the expense and effort worthwile.
